Where the numbers come from
Every tai on this site is checked against what Taiwanese players use: the big apps’ own rule pages, tournament rulebooks and published tai tables, and the game scores with the same table. This page lists what we checked, how we picked the defaults, and where tables genuinely differ.

How we picked the defaults
The default is what most of these sources give; a tie goes to Gamesofa (神來也), the most-played app. In English we also cross-checked English Wikipedia, Mahjong Wiki, Four Winds, the University of Chicago club and Sloperama. English pages often describe Hong Kong 16-tile, where fan double; where they contradict the Taiwanese sources, the Taiwanese reading wins.
Where tables genuinely differ
A well-known app or many tables play these lines differently from this site, and each pattern page says so in the same one line. Zhaishenye (宅神爺) scores its whole table on a larger scale, about one and a half times these values, so it is not listed line by line.
Also played: the streak without its bonus, N instead of 2N (an option at MJOnline).
2NtaiAlso played: a declared hand that self-draws adds Self-draw only, without Unaided, at some tables.
1taiAlso played: the bamboo numbered 3 and the mum 4 (Star31 and many tables); every flower in this app carries its number.
1taiAlso played: no Round or Seat wind on top, at the NTU Cup and some home tables.
8taiAlso played: 8 at many home tables, often as Migi (咪幾): ready within the first few discards.
4taiAlso played: 8 where a win on any player’s first discard of the hand counts (Gamesofa, MJOnline).
16taiAlso played: not played in the Mahjong Masters or Chinese Mahjong League tournament rules.
8taiAlso played: most tables score the flower win alone, without this line.
4taiThe common house rules on play, such as passed wins and the reserve, are in the rules page’s house-rules table.
